Resurrection’ Begins Filming as Michael C. Hall Celebrates Return

Dexter: Original Sin may have been on a break this past weekend, but that doesn’t mean the world of our favorite vigilante serial killer stops spinning. With just four more episodes to go in the prequel series, original star Michael C. Hall has shared the news that he’s back on set to film Dexter: Resurrection, which is the next installment in the ongoing saga of the man once known as the Bay Harbor Butcher.

Hall took to social media on Friday to share the good news (seen below), posting a video of himself through the official Dexter account on X to mark the first day of filming on Resurrection, which is expected to premiere later this year. Hall began playing the role of Dexter Morgan in 2006 when the hit Showtime series made its debut, and returned to the franchise again in 2021 when Dexter: New Blood revived the character after an eight-year absence. “Hey, what’s up? It’s Michael C. Hall,” the video begins as the star takes us behind the scenes of the sequel series.

“I am on the set for the first official day of production for Dexter: Resurrection. It’s happening. I’m looking forward to taking another thrill ride and when all is said and done, to you taking the ride with us. Stay tuned.”

The villains of ‘Dexter’ stole the show, and the actors behind them gave a killer performance.

Based on the reception to Dexter: Original Sin thus far, it appears as if a lot of people will be taking the ride for Resurrection, as the prequel series has drawn massive numbers for Showtime and Paramount+. The premiere episode on Dec. 13 had over 2.1 million global cross-platform viewers, making it Showtime’s most-streamed premiere in the network’s history. While Hall made a brief appearance in the opener to help set up Resurrection, the real star is Partick Gibson, who portrays his younger self, with Hall providing the voice of his inner thoughts.

Fans React to the Return of ‘Dexter’

There was no shortage of responses to Hall’s video on social media this past weekend from people who are eager to see him step into the role of Dexter once more. Sure, Original Sin has been great at scratching our itch for more of the beloved killer, but there’s something about seeing Hall again that feels like comfort food. “I can not friggen wait,” said @ReAnimateHer on X. “This is so exciting. I have not been so excited for a show this much before!!!!”

“I’m super excited to see what the new series brings,” added @_RedHeadedRebel. Trust us, you’re not the only one, as now that we know how Dexter survived the ending of New Blood, we can’t wait to find out where Resurrection takes us next, and just how Dexter’s going to escape the clutches of the police. A plethora of more responses — all in the same vein as the two above — flooded social media over the weekend, which seemingly points to Resurrection being another hit when it makes its long-awaited debut in June.

Fans looking to relive all of Dexter’s infamous kills can check out the original series streaming now on Netflix, or watch the entire Dexter universe, including New Blood and Original Sin, on Parmount+ with Showtime.
