Ryan Gosling in talks to star in Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars movie
In a surprise for Star Wars fans, three-time Oscar nominee Ryan Gosling is negotiating to star in a new Star Wars film directed by Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool and Wolverine.
This marks a significant step forward in the long-anticipated project, which has been in development since 2022.
The details surrounding the film remain tightly guarded, but sources confirm that Levy’s Star Wars movie will be a standalone story, not connected to the Skywalker Saga. It is also unclear whether the film will explore the iconic Jedi-Sith conflict, as it is being kept under wraps. Jonathan Tropper, Levy’s longtime collaborator, has been working on the script for over a year, and Levy will also produce the project through his 21 Laps banner, alongside Kathleen Kennedy and Lucasfilm.
If negotiations finalize, Gosling’s involvement would propel the movie into production, with cameras possibly rolling this fall. This would make the film not only Levy’s next project but also the next Star Wars movie to enter production, following The Mandalorian’s release in May 2026. Gosling’s casting would be notable, as his involvement marks a rare instance of a major A-list actor joining the Star Wars universe.
Previously, Gosling was rumored for a Star Wars role back in 2013, but now, the actor’s space-themed movie Project Hail Mary could set the stage for his return to sci-fi with the Star Wars franchise.
