United Nations – Saba:
The United Nations official, Jonathan Whittall, announced that the first trucks of humanitarian aid entered the Gaza Strip minutes after the ceasefire agreement went into effect on Sunday.
Whittall, the senior official for the occupied Palestinian territories at the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), wrote in a post on the “X” platform: “A ceasefire has finally come into effect in Gaza, and the first supply trucks began entering barely 15 minutes after that.”
Whittall stressed that “humanitarian partners have made great efforts in recent days to prepare for the distribution of massive aid throughout the Gaza Strip.”
For his part, the head of “OCHA,” Tom Fletcher, expressed in a post on the “X” platform the need to enable the delivery of this vital aid to those in need in the Gaza Strip.
Since the ceasefire agreement came into effect this morning, hundreds of trucks loaded with food and medical aid have arrived at the Rafah land crossing in preparation for their entry into the Strip.
According to the terms obtained by Al Mayadeen, the agreement stipulates the entry of 600 aid trucks daily, within a “humanitarian protocol” sponsored by the State of Qatar, and the entry of 200,000 tents and 60,000 “caravans” for urgent shelter.
On Saturday, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aati confirmed that his country will continue its efforts to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip through the Rafah border crossing. He pointed out that, according to the ceasefire agreement, 600 trucks will be brought in daily, including 50 fuel trucks, and 300 trucks will be brought in to the northern Gaza Strip.
Official sources in Cairo reported last Thursday that “a European delegation will arrive in the Egyptian capital this week to establish a mechanism to operate the crossing from the Palestinian side.”
