More virtual Ironman courses available on Rouvy with new merger

The number of Ironman race courses age group athletes can test on their indoor rides has increased with a new partnership.

Indoor virtual cycling platform Rouvy has acquired FulGaz. The acquisition seals a deal with Ironman to be its official digital platform for its full distance and 70.3 Triathlon Series. The virtual platform connects indoor bike trainers to an app that uses realistic videos to take riders on virtual rides over real-life routes.

Many more popular Ironman courses added

The partnership brings the addition of several Ironman 70.3 courses including Mont Tremblant, Oregon, Zell Am See-Kaprun and the European Championship. More routes are expected to be added as the platform continues to evolve this year.

FulGaz was the official platform of the Ironman 70.3 Global Series. The amalgamation of its platform with Rouvy brings an expanse of options for riding Ironman courses from the comfort of your indoor trainer.

Test a specific course before signing up

The expanded availability of Ironman race courses on the digital platform is an advantage to triathletes training for an upcoming Ironman race or trying to decide which race course suits their strengths.

If you’re not sure the hills in Lanzarote on the bike course are a match for your climbing ability on the bike, you can test it out by riding the virtual course before dropping a thousand dollars on a race fee entry.

Getting a feel for the bike course you’ve signed up for can also inform your training plan. Testing the terrain can help identify weaknesses and give direction on how to build a training plan that prepares you for the demands of the ride.

Dial in your nutrition with aid stations along the route

With the addition of Rouvy, riders have the added bonus of a more realistic experience while riding virtual routes. Rouvy’s claim to fame is that is records real routes on location. It promises to even have marked aid stations along its virtual courses, giving athletes the opportunity to practice their fuelling strategy with precision.

Regarding the recent announcement, Ironman CEO Scott DeRue said the company’s goal is to elevate the athlete experience beyond anything before.

“Pairing our iconic Ironman and Ironman 70.3 routes with Rouvy’s seamless user experience, immersive technology, and unparalleled data analytics, we will help both novice and experienced triathletes perform at their very best and have a lot fun doing it,” said DeRue.

FulGaz gradually being phased out

FulGaz users can still access the platform until further notice. Rouvy is adding numerous routes from the outgoing FulGaz as the transition rolls out.

“We are thrilled to provide users with an immersive and effective way to train, helping them achieve their triathlon goals and discover courses around the world that they may never have the opportunity to ride in real life,” said Rouvy CEO Petr Samek.
