‘Almost Nobody’ Thinks Sam Mendes’ Beatles Films Coming in 2027 (EXCL)
Sam Mendes is looking to get to work with his chosen Fab Four on The Beatles’ biopic and an insider with ties to the project exclusively reveals to Life & Style they’d best buckle up, considering filming could go on for up to four years as they tackle the series of likely four feature films.
“The cast is coming together and the world is watching, but more importantly, the surviving controllers of the Beatles’ legacy are watching – Paul [McCartney], Yoko [Ono], Ringo [Starr] and Olivia Harrison,” explains the high level source. “Sony and Sam Mendes have one chance to get this right, and so far, nobody is really freaking out or crying foul about the cast members in final negotiations to play the band members.”
The four stars rumored to play the iconic musicians are: Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr and Joseph Quinn as George Harrison.
The insider continues, “That does not change the fact that they are going to be making four entire feature films, one about each band member, and each one absolutely filled to the brim with The Beatles music most associated with that individual member.”
While there’s still a ways to go in terms of preparation, considering “they actually will not start filming these movies until late 2025,” the insider says that this current stage “is all about closing the deals and, where possible, getting the actors to spend real quality time with wither the living Beatle they’ll be playing or the family members of the deceased Beatle they’ll be playing.”
“After that, the physical transformations, rehearsals and training begin.”

The actors portraying still-living band members may have it a little easier. “It’s going to take many months for Paul Mescal to learn to play bass like Paul McCartney, and for Barry Keoghan to learn to drum like Ringo, but those guys will at least have the benefit of unlimited personal access to the band member they’re portraying.”
“What’s going to be tougher is Joseph Quinn and Harris Dickinson learning to embody George and John without having face time with the dearly departed real men,” the source says. “That means endlessly studying video of performances and grilling John and George’s kids and widows.”
“This will be an exhaustive process for both of those guys just to get things right. But the massive question hanging over this project is how long it will really take. Even if they stick to the roadmap and start shooting one year from now, the plan is to make four great movies back-to-back and release all four in 2027.”
“Almost nobody in town believes that is really possible, no matter how calm and reassuring Sam Mendes is about his plan. Yes, Sam has the official backing of The Beatles organization, but we have to be real here: this project is going to take at least four years to finish, if not more, because each of the cast members figures so heavily in each other’s films.”
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime project, sure, but it’s also going to take what feels like a lifetime to actually get these movies completed and in theaters.”
