Real-Life Weight Loss Story: Weight loss is a journeys subjective. It requires an emotional, mental and physical investment of different levels. The route, time and destination can be different for different people. Everyone has their own story to glory. Everyone comes with their own sets of reasons for how, when and why they embarked on this mission. For Shrini Vishwanath it was his fatherhood. Speaking exclusively for India.com, he said, “The thought of becoming a dad gave me a fresh perspective on life and made me realise the importance of being healthy and active. I wanted to be fully present, energetic, and set a strong example for my child. That sense of responsibility pushed me to take this transformation seriously. It also required the support of my family. My wife was going through her own journey with pregnancy and she was instrumental in ensuring that I followed through with my plan.”
The Co-Founder of Upstox, started from 68 kgs and reduced to 55.7 kgs!
Shrini Vishwanath, the Co-Founder of Upstox, lost over 10 kgs in nearly 100 days by adhering to a very simple dedicated diet and exercise routine. Here is his inspiring journey of embarking on a happier and healthier life and how!
What Was Your Weight Loss Diet And Routine?
For me, the focus was on simplicity and sustainability. I cut out processed foods and stopped ordering from outside altogether. My diet centered around home-cooked meals with more vegetables, whole grains, and lots of water. I didn’t adopt any extreme diets but stuck to eating clean, balanced meals every day.
Did You Completely Cut Down on Sugar?
I stopped eating white sugar and had fruits instead. Apples, pears, peaches, dry fruits are all great sources of vitamins and minerals that satisfied my sweet tooth
Did You Have Cheat Meals?
That was a change for me. I didn’t have any cheat meals for the 100 days. I tried to incorporate the foods I liked into my diet. For example I really enjoy paneer, chapati and Indian curries. I had that everyday for lunch but made it without butter, oil or ghee. Indian food is so flavorful with the spices that you honestly don’t need these additives to enjoy the taste.
What is One Rule That You Abide by For Losing Weight?
Consistency is the key. Whether it’s walking every day or making healthier food choices, it’s the small, consistent steps that lead to lasting results.
What Was One Thing That Worked Best For You?
Focusing on nutrition worked best for me. While I have going to the gym for years, it wasn’t until I truly prioritised my diet—opting for home-cooked meals and cutting out processed foods—that I saw significant results. Walking 8-10,000 steps a day, even at home, also played a big role.
One Challenge That You Faced And How Did You Overcome it?
One of the biggest challenges was balancing my work commitments and parenthood while staying focused on my health goals. To tackle this, I planned my meals in advance, avoided eating out, and broke my journey into manageable steps.
Is There a Weight Loss Myth That You Got to Know About During Your Journey?
A common myth is that weight loss requires extreme workouts. From my experience, the truth is that nutrition matters far more than spending hours in the gym. Sustainable changes in eating habits can make all the difference without you having to spend hours at the gym everyday.
How to Strike Work-Life Balance With Fitness?
The hustle culture tends to get the best of us where personal life and health sometimes gets a backseat. In the light of the recent debate surrounding ’90-hours work’ culture comment by L&T chairman SN Subrahmanyan, we asked Mr Vishwanath about his purview. “Life is a delicate balance between managing your personal well being and your professional responsibilities. What works for me is to carve out specific time for each sphere of my life – business, family, fitness – and when I’m there I try to focus fully on that sphere. Rather than pushing more hours at work, a better strategy is to be more mindful at work and avoid distractions. We’re constantly bombarded with information in our daily lives and it would do well to limit that in all aspects of our lives,” he said.
Desk jobs, long sitting hours can adversely affect the health. “Desk jobs can lead to a sedentary lifestyle, but small adjustments can go a long way. For instance, I made it a point to walk 8,000 steps a day, even at home, and focused on eating nutritious, home-cooked meals. Staying hydrated and taking short activity breaks during the day can also help,” Upstox co-founder said highlighting the essence of inculcating physical activity in daily routine.
