Mohanlal-Amal Neerad movie buzz gets stronger after Bheeshma Parvam writer drops a hint

The OTT premiere of Barroz, rumoured postponement of Thudarum and the impending teaser release of L2 Empuraan have all ensured that Mohanlal remains the buzzword among Malayalam cinephiles online. However, what got the fans excited even more is the possibility of the Malayalam superstar joining hands with Amal Neerad for a movie. Here’s what led to the speculation on social media and why the Lalettan fans are excited.

Speculations about a Mohanlal-Amal Neerad movie have been making rounds on social media for some time now. However, the latest spike in interest was triggered after Bheeshma Parvam writer Devadath Shaji shared an Instagram Story. For the unversed, Amal Neerad directed the hit film Bheeshma Parvam, which starred Mammootty in the lead role. 

Devadath Shaji shared a meme on a popular scene from Bheeshma Parvam with the dialogue ‘You wouldn’t have opened your mouth, had you seen that version of him’. It also featured a photo of Mohanlal from his Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded along with ‘Oru Amal Neerad padam’ (translating to an Amal Neerad movie). If you did not know or already guessed, Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded was also directed by Amal Neerad. 

Fans online are also speculating whether Fahadh Faasil would be part of this project. Take a look at some of the reactions on Twitter.

Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded

The popular filmmaker and Mohanlal had last collaborated on Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded, which released way back in 2009. SN Swamy had written Sagar Alias Jacky Reloaded, the sequel of Irupatham Noottandu which has attained a cult status over the years. Mohanlal’s character in the 1987 film says the hugely popular dialogue that he is ‘Sagar Alias Jacky’, which eventually formed the title of the sequel. 

The Amal Neerad film also featured Shobana, Bhavana, Manoj K Jayan, Jagathy Sreekumar and Nedumudi Venu, among others. 

Amal Neerad’s Bougainvillea on OTT

On the other hand, Amal Neerad’s last directorial was Bougainvillea, which starred Jyothirmayi, and Kunchacko Boban, along with Fahadh Faasil.
