Navi Mumbai: The sixth annual Think Big Science Carnival, organized by Amazon, was held at the CIDCO Exhibition Centre, Navi Mumbai, where more than 2,800 students and over 100 teachers from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) schools, government officials, and industry representatives attended.

The event is a flagship initiative under the Amazon Think Big Spaces program in collaboration with the Learning Links Foundation. It provides a platform for students from underserved communities to explore and excel in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) disciplines. This year’s theme, “Inclusive Innovation,” encouraged students to identify and address real-world problems aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Out of over 260 project entries submitted by students, the top 25 teams were selected to present their innovations to a jury. Projects such as the Electronic Health Card, Smart Train Coupling, and Ticket Scanning Machine were among the top ideas. The Insulin Cooling Box won the Best Innovation Award, while the Elder Care Wheelchair was recognized with the Best Presentation Award. The Women Safety Device earned the Popular Choice Award for its relevance and impact.

Sergio Loureiro, Vice President of Global Data Center Operations, AWS, delivered the keynote address, urging students to adopt a builder’s mindset for both STEM careers and life skills. Sangharatna Khillare, Deputy Commissioner of Education, NMMC, expressed her appreciation for the event, highlighting its role in inspiring children to develop a passion for science, technology, and math. She also commended the efforts of Amazon and the Learning Links Foundation in reaching underserved communities and fostering innovation.

Prateek Khandelwal, founder of RampMyCity and guest of honour, shared his inspiring journey of building a physical accessibility start-up after experiencing paraplegia. “Disability is a natural part of human diversity, and embracing it is vital for building a truly inclusive society. When we stop being part of the problem and start becoming part of the solution, we pave the way for a nation where everyone has the freedom to thrive,” Khandelwal stated. He also praised the carnival for empowering students to create solutions that enhance inclusivity in society.

In addition to project presentations, the event featured expert-led sessions, interactive demonstrations, and mentorship opportunities, providing a hands-on learning experience for students. The Think Big Science Carnival celebrated the creativity and innovation of India’s young minds, setting the stage for a future driven by inclusive and impactful ideas.
