After Coldplay’s Ahmedabad spectacle, Anand Mahindra makes a powerful statement on India’s rise

Coldplay’s recent concert in Ahmedabad has been hailed as a landmark moment for live entertainment in India. Held at the Narendra Modi Stadium, the Grammy-winning British band’s performance marked their largest concert to date, with thousands of fans gathering to experience the electrifying show. Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, highlighted the significance of the event, sharing an aerial video of the packed stadium with the caption, “The moment when the world discovered that India is the new frontier of live entertainment. Coldplay. Ahmedabad.”

Coldplay’s Milestone Performance

Coldplay’s Ahmedabad show, part of their Music of the Spheres world tour, was described as “mind-blowing” by the band on their official X (formerly Twitter) page. “Our biggest ever concert. Totally mind-blowing. Thank you, Ahmedabad. See you again tomorrow,” they posted, accompanied by an image of the vibrant crowd.

Lead vocalist Chris Martin added a personal touch to the evening by addressing the audience in Gujarati. “Tame logo aaje bada sundar laago cho. Hu tamare shahar ma aavyo chu. Kem cho, Ahmedabad? (You all look beautiful today. I’ve come to your city. How are you, Ahmedabad?)” he said, earning thunderous applause.

During the show, Martin encouraged fans to live in the moment, saying, “Your phone in your pocket, your hands in the sky,” urging them to immerse themselves fully in the experience.

Enthusiastic Fandom

Social media buzzed with reactions to the concert, including Anand Mahindra’s viral video, which captured the sheer scale of the event. Fans from across India gathered at the venue, turning it into a sea of lights and music. One social media user commented, “Coldplay in Ahmedabad – an unforgettable night that marked a new chapter in global music history!”However, not everyone was entirely positive. A few critics noted the disparity in India’s priorities, with one user remarking, “Yeah, right the moment everyone realized India’s the new entertainment hub when Coldplay played in Ahmedabad. Cause, you know we’ve got nothing better to do with our time since there are no bloody jobs right?”

Tight Security Measures

To ensure the safety of attendees, over 3,800 police personnel, including a specialized contingent from the National Security Guard (NSG), were deployed at the stadium. More than 400 CCTV cameras were also installed to provide 24/7 surveillance of the venue and its surroundings.

Despite the elaborate preparations, reports of ticket black marketing surfaced, with some individuals allegedly caught selling tickets illegally. According to local sources, three individuals were detained but later released.

Livestream for Fans Across India

For fans unable to attend the concert in person, Coldplay offered a livestream of their Republic Day performance at the same venue on Disney+ Hotstar. The event, starting at 7:45 PM, allowed audiences across India to experience the magic of the band’s live performance from the comfort of their homes.

Coldplay’s Ahmedabad concert has undoubtedly set a new benchmark for live performances in India. With the scale of the event, the enthusiasm of the crowd, and the global attention it garnered, the concert showcased India as a key destination for world-class entertainment.
