Special Olympics Oman, Snow Oman ink pact for Italy Winter Games
Special Olympics Oman has formalised a significant partnership with Snow Oman through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to train and prepare its athletes for the Special Olympics World Winter Games, set to take place in Turin, Italy, in March 2025.
The agreement was signed by Nabila bint Yaqoob Alharthyah, National Director of Special Olympics Oman and Olivier Saez, Vice-President of Global Snow.
This collaboration aims to provide athletes with specialised training programmes and extensive technical support, ensuring they are fully equipped to excel on the global stage.
Snow Oman will also manage logistical arrangements and supply the necessary resources to boost the delegation’s performance in the championship.
The signing ceremony was held under the auspices of Basil bin Ahmed al Rawas, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth for Sports and Youth.
The agreement underscored the partnership’s dedication to empowering athletes with intellectual disabilities and fostering inclusivity through sports.
Both organisations expressed their enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasising the role of sports in promoting social inclusion and nurturing athletes’ skills.
This initiative aligns with Oman’s commitment to supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities and providing them platforms to participate in international sporting events.
Commenting on the partnership, Olivier Saez said, “Snow Oman is proud to embark on this journey with Special Olympics Oman to prepare the national team for the Special Olympics World Winter Games. Sports can break barriers, foster inclusivity and provide a stage for athletes to showcase their talent, determination and resilience.”
This MoU highlights the Sultanate of Oman’s ongoing efforts to champion inclusivity and create opportunities for athletes of all abilities to thrive.
