Literary debate on diasporic literature
The Sahitya Akademi and the Department of English, St. Joseph’s College, Devagiri, on Monday (January 27) organised a literary debate on ‘New trends in diasporic literature’.
K.P. Ramanunni, writer, while delivering the opening remarks, said that diasporic literature had enriched the inclusive nature of the Malayalam language. It also broadened cultural perspectives, he added.
Manohar Thomas, writer and actor, elaborated on the role of social media platforms in providing a global stage for diasporic writers to share and publish their works, thereby reaching a broader audience. S. Anilal, writer, spoke on how globalisation and advancements in information and communication technology acted as catalysts in shaping the experiences and narratives of the diaspora.
Nirmala, writer, spoke on how technological advancements have transformed the landscape for diasporic writers, making publishing and networking significantly easier. Boby Jose, principal, and Robin Xavier, faculty member, Department of English, among others, were present.
