South Korea breaks into top 10 source markets for Maldives tourism

South Korea has climbed into the top 10 source markets for Maldives tourism.

Last year, South Korea ranked 11th.

According to the Tourism Ministry, 3,117 tourists have visited the Maldives from South Korea as of the 25th of this month.

While a total of 169,424 tourists visited the Maldives so far this year, this marks an increase of 10.9 per cent over 152,811 tourists during the same period last year.

Top 10 source markets are as follows:

China – 23,186 tourists
Russia – 18,651 tourists
Italy – 16,614 tourists
United Kingdom – 15,030 tourists
Germany – 9,931 tourists
India – 8,241 tourists
France – 5,645 tourists
United States – 5,379 tourists
Poland – 3,579 tourists
South Korea – 3,117 tourists

The majority of tourist arrivals during this period, 69.2 percent (117,307 tourists) spent their holidays in resorts. Guesthouses accounted for 25.8 percent (43,775 tourists). In addition, 4,198 tourists stayed in hotels and 4,079 tourists stayed on safaris.
