DJ Duo Hills on Their Rise Up the Electronic Music Charts

Hills DJs Tommy and David are no strangers to the music industry, but they recently set out on a new sonic journey that has ultimately redefined their careers.
Driven by a spark of inspiration and a yearning for a new direction, the duo began experimenting with innovative sounds and received a positive response from listeners This creative process marked the birth of Hills, the DJ duo and production team that would soon start to make noise and viral hits in the edm world.
Newsweek spoke to Tommy about the creation of the duo, who revealed, “We just started making these new songs and were like, oh, these are cool. We should do something with them, you know. They were kind of darker and more like tech house space. So we were like, okay, this needs a new kind of identity. This thing has a new name; this needs a new life.”

Hills quickly built a devoted online following by leveraging the power of social media. Through their Instagram profile, they consistently released exclusive mixes and music on a weekly basis, directly connecting with fans and building a community. This strategy proved to be incredibly effective, as their music rapidly gained virality across the dance music landscape.
“We both had decided that if it were put out on one of our old projects that we had done, that it wouldn’t get the life that it deserved. So we were like, let’s try something new and just kind of put it online and see what happens,” Tommy relayed. “All we asked was to get the free remix, and you just, you know, shoot us a follow. And suddenly, the remixes are charting all these charts. The Instagram profile is growing, you know, like 2,000 followers a day, 3,000 followers a day, and it has just started getting more traction than anything we had ever done before,” the musician shared.
The duo’s unique sound did not go unnoticed as their online presence amassed an impressive amount of followers in just a few months.
“Our first single was called ‘The Booth,’ It charted No. 11 on Beatport, which is like the main place where DJs download music. And it was also featured in a lot of the big Spotify playlists,” Tommy revealed. “And then our second single, it’s an official remix for the Chainsmokers. And with that we just made it and put it up online like on our Instagram and it got so many views that the Chainsmokers’ management reached out to us and asked if they could have released it as an official single.”
Hills surge in popularity continues –– culminating in their newest single, “Coolin,” which was signed to superstar Fisher’s renowned Catch & Release music label. The track quickly climbed the charts and currently sits at No. 6 on Beatport, solidifying Hills’ position as an artist to watch in the electronic music world.
