India-made 5-Door Maruti Jimny Launch In Japan

While the 5-door Maruti Jimny hasn’t achieved the desired domestic results, it seems to thrive overseas. Maruti Fronx and Jimny are currently among the most exported cars from India. Jimny 5-door model will soon be introduced in Japan as well. This follows the Fronx, which is already on sale in Japan.

In Japan, the 5-door Jimny will go on sale as the ‘Jimny Nomade’. Bookings have already commenced. It is reported that the first batch of 5-door Jimny export shipments have already reached the Land of the Rising Sun. Potential buyers can expect the Jimny Nomade to be available in showrooms in the coming days.

Suzuki Jimny Nomade

Suzuki already manufactures the 3-door Jimny locally at its Kosai plant. Users can choose between the Jimny Standard, which features a 660cc engine, or the Jimny Sierra, equipped with a larger 1.5-litre engine. The 5-door Jimny is a derivative of the Jimny Sierra. To avoid any confusion over the 3-door and 5-door versions, Suzuki will be using the Jimny Nomade name for the 5-door model.

Suzuki Nomade vs. 5-door Jimny – What’s different?

Nomade is derived from ‘nomad’, symbolizing the spirit of mobility, freedom and adventure. The Nomade suffix has been used earlier for specific variants of SUVs like Suzuki Vitara. It is expected that Suzuki Nomade to be sold in Japan will not have any major differences in comparison to the 5-door Jimny sold in India.

Much of the styling and features are expected to be common for both models. Only some minor differences could be there such as changes in the badging. 5-door Jimny is well-equipped with features such as LED headlamp, headlamp washer and electric adjustable and retractable ORVMs.

Inside, there’s a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and premium sound system by ARKAMYS. Other highlights include leather wrapped steering wheel, cruise control and auto climate control. Safety kit includes front, side and curtain airbags, ESP, hill hold control, hill descent control, rear view camera and brake assist function.

Suzuki Jimny

Engine will be the same for Jimny Nomade, the 1.5-litre K15B petrol unit that generates 104.8 PS and 134.2 Nm. Transmission choices include 5-speed manual and 4AT. Fuel efficiency is 16.94 km/l with the manual and 16.39 km/l with the automatic transmission. Just like the Indian version, Jimny Nomade will get the ALLGRIP PRO (with Low Range Transfer Gear) as standard across all variants.

Jimny Nomade Upgrade options for JDM customers

Suzuki is providing Jimny buyers in Japan an option to upgrade to the 5-door Jimny Nomade. This option is available to folks who have made their bookings for the Jimny Sierra 3-door. If the delivery is yet to be made, these customers can upgrade to Jimny Nomade. To encourage buyers to choose the upgrade option, Suzuki is offering priority delivery for Jimny Nomade.
