PEREN, JANUARY 29 (MExN): The Nsong Area Sports Association (NASA), based in Nsong, Peren, officially kicked off its 3rd Annual Sports Meet at Lalong Village today.
The event, which runs through January 31, is being held under the theme “Arise and Shine.” This year’s meet is focused on promoting sportsmanship, unity, and empowering youth by providing a platform for young athletes to showcase their talents while fostering community spirit, a press release issued by NASA informed.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Azanbo Nbung, General Secretary of the NCP, 6 Tening A/C, as the special guest. In his opening speech, Nbung emphasized the significant role sports play in shaping society, citing their ability to promote physical fitness, teamwork, discipline, and pride.
He noted that sports have the power to transcend boundaries, fostering cultural unity and national pride, while also encouraging inclusivity in sports participation. He particularly urged more female athletes to take part in the competition, highlighting the positive impact of sports development on community life.
This year’s sports meet features a variety of team sports, including Futsal (Men) and Volleyball (Men & Women), as well as individual athletic events such as Marathon, Long Jump, High Jump, and Shotput. Athletes from numerous villages across the region are competing, displaying remarkable skill and determination.
The event has garnered strong support from the local community, with a large turnout of spectators, community leaders, and sports enthusiasts cheering on the athletes.
