Sheridan Hawks Junior Hockey Team Split Home Games Vs. Rapid City Ahead Of Off Week – Sheridan Media

Like most other sports, overtime happens in hockey and with the exception of this past weekend, the Sheridan Hawks have been staying away from playing much extra time this season.

The team split home games this past Friday and Saturday at home vs. Rapid City, winning 4-3 in overtime, and losing 5-4 by way of a shootout.

This season the Hawks have had 4 games go longer than 60 minutes, winning 1, losing 2 and lost 1 other in a shootout.

Last year Sheridan had 7 games go beyond regulation, winning 3 of them, losing 2 and lost 2 others in a shootout.

Those losses cost the team points in the standings and they only missed last year’s post-season by 4 points.

Hawks Assistant Coach Mahkai Sparks explains that overtime hasn’t always been beneficial.

“I think it’s probably more of a good thing, because our special teams are probably one of our weaker points on our team, so I think that if we stay out of the overtime, the 3 on 3, the 5 on 4’s, I think if we just play 5 on 5, we play full strength the whole game I think we should be fine.”

The Hawks are off this weekend from competition and will conclude their 10-game homestand on Friday and Saturday, February 7th and 8th against Great Falls.
