Alison Brie & Dave Franco’s Body Horror Film Sells to Neon After Debuting at Sundance With 100% RT Score

Acting couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie have produced a body horror hit. After the success of their new film at the Sundance Film Festival, it will be given a wider release in theaters courtesy of Neon.

Per Variety, Franco and Brie’s Together has just been sold to Neon after the film’s impressive debut at Sundance. With its early reviews after premiering at the prestigious film festival, Together has a perfect score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes. This early praise, coupled with The Substance – another acclaimed body horror film – garnering major award nominations, may have helped seal the deal of Neon swooping in to acquire the distribution rights. Now, filmgoers will just need to wait for the wide release date to be announced. There was reportedly a bidding war once it arrived, with A24 and Mubi also in the mix, and the deal is believed to be one of the biggest ever for a Sundance film at between $10 million and $15 million.

Sinners Director Reveals Why Michael B. Jordan Horror Film Is “More Exciting” Than Black Panther

Black Panther franchise director Ryan Coogler reveals why he feels more excitement with the upcoming period film, Sinners.

The film was written and directed by Michael Shanks in his directorial debut with Franco and Brie starring in the lead roles. They play a codependent couple who try to make their relationship even stronger by moving to a remote countryside home, but while they do wind up much closer, it’s in a much more horrifying way than they’d expect – thanks to some supernatural intervention. While the two are married in real life, both actors have garnered praise for their performances in the film.

“Couples who have been together as long as Tim & Millie start to question where one person ends and the other begins. Together turns that concept into physical horror in a way that’s unforgettable,” RogerEbert.com critic Brian Tallerico said of the film.

Collider critic Ross Bonaime also noted, “In this wild horror romance, Brie and Franco go completely all-in with a gleefully strange concept that’s some of their best work yet. Shanks’ screenplay is a great blend of unrelenting horror and laughably uncomfortable moments.”

Although Alison Brie and husband Dave Franco have shared the screen in the past, they truly sink into each other with some skin-crawling, albeit heartfelt and hilarious performances in writer-director Michael Shanks‘ feature debut Together,” Deadline critic Glenn Garner also put it.

Dave Franco and Alison Brie Team Up for a Body Horror Project

Franco and Brie produced Together together with Picturestart, Tango, 1.21, and Princess Pictures. The two have previously collaborated on other projects, which includes having roles together in titles like The Little Hours, The Disaster Artist, the Brie-penned Horse Girl, and Franco’s The Rental, which also marked his directorial debut. Franco also directed the 2023 film Somebody I Used to Know, which the two co-wrote with Brie also starring in the lead role.

A wide release date has not yet been set for Together, but it is currently screening at Sundance.
