Yamaha R3 patented in India: Here’s all you need to know – Bike News

The new YZF-R3 gets a makeover with fresh design and enhanced features, but competitive pricing will remain crucial.

Yamaha Motor India is gearing up for a serious play in the 300cc segment, having patented the 2025 YZF-R3 in India. After a few years of playing catch-up with the KTM RC390 and the new Aprilia RS 457, it looks like Yamaha is finally ready to throw its hat back in the ring. So, what’s new with the 2025 R3? We dive into the fresh features and design changes that might just make this bike worth your revved-up attention.

2025 Yamaha R3: Design

The 2025 Yamaha R3 takes its design cues from Yamaha’s latest R series language, which was first seen on the R9. One of the standout features is the sleek, katana-inspired LED projector headlights, paired with a sharper, more aggressive front end. The entire lighting setup, including the indicators, is now fully LED.

In terms of aerodynamics, the new R3 boasts a slimmer and more streamlined fairing, making it more efficient compared to the current model sold in India. A noticeable change is the increased use of blacked-out elements, such as the front mudguard, while the fairing now comes in a solid blue, replacing the dual black-blue paint scheme found on the older version.

In terms of hardware, the new model comes with upgrades like golden-finished upside-down front forks. The blue alloy wheels retain their signature look, but the exhaust is now more compact. The 2025 Yamaha R3 is offered in three fresh color options: the iconic Team Yamaha Blue, Lunar White with Nebula Blue accents, and Matte Stealth Black.

2025 Yamaha R3: Features

The 2025 Yamaha R3 is getting some much-needed upgrades.  While the current model is missing some basics, the new version finally adds a slip-and-assist clutch,  a first for the R3.  It now sports a new LCD digital instrument cluster with a blue background.  While it still lacks built-in navigation, Yamaha offers connected tech via Bluetooth and the Y-Support app, but it continues to use a USB-A port instead of the USB-C.

2025 Yamaha R3: Engine

The new Yamaha R3 is powered by a 321cc liquid-cooled, twin-cylinder engine producing 41 bhp and 29.5 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox that now includes a slip and assist clutch. Based on the international R3 model’s specifications, it has a seat height of 780mm, a wheelbase of 1379mm, ground clearance of 160mm, and a weight of 169kg.  Braking is handled by a 298mm front disc and a 220mm rear disc, with dual-channel ABS as a standard feature.
