Peru’s Min: Labor markets must adapt to AI | Noticias

emphasized that countries must adapt to the impact that technological changes, in general, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in particular, will have on their labor markets.

“We have to realize that, just as globalization came to change the world, the same is true of technologies and AI, which are here to stay. The impact on various countries will depend greatly on the level of development and employability of their human capital,” Maurate said.

“Therefore, all countries must be prepared to react appropriately to its effects; otherwise, these may negatively impact their labor markets,” he added.

The government official spoke at the ministerial roundtable on innovative solutions to strengthen youth employment in various markets, where he reminded attendees that in recent decades countries that adapted to globalization have fared well, while those that resisted have fared poorly.

“The same will happen with new technologies and Artificial Intelligence, because to the extent that we adapt to them, we will do well, and that will positively impact citizens and the development of countries,” he underlined.

The Cabinet member defined labor productivity as the division between national production and the number of workers contributing to it; while labor competitiveness is the sum of hard and soft skills, plus knowledge that workers must possess, which is the focus of his administration’s efforts to enhance human capital production and overall development in Peru.

As part of the activities in Riyadh, Minister Maurate held a meeting with Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert Houngbo, to refine details of his visit to Peru.

Furthermore, the Peruvian government official held bilateral meetings with the Minister of Human Capital of Argentina, Sandra Pettovello, who expressed interest in the “Llamkasun Peru” and “Jovenes Productivos” programs, as well as in the “Mi Carrera” platform. Moreover, her technical teams were invited to visit Peru and learn about the sector’s experiences first-hand.

In this context, he also met with the Deputy Minister of Human Resources and Social Development of Saudi Arabia, Tariq Bin Abdulaziz; the Minister of Labor and Social Security of El Salvador, Rolando Castro, to coordinate actions for exchanging best labor practices between both countries; and the Minister of Labor of Ecuador, Ivonne Nuñez, to strengthen cooperation relations on labor and employment issues, especially in border areas.

The Global Labor Market Conference held in Riyadh aims to address the search for solutions for market improvement and a more balanced labor landscape; develop solutions for resilience and labor opportunity for a more inclusive, sustainable, and future-proof movement; as well as identify initiatives for capacity development and be the main international platform to collaborate and promote solutions for the labor market, among others.
