Moyamba District Council Commissions Health Center and School Construction Funded by World Bank
The Moyamba District Council handed over the Falaba Health Centre, staff quarters and school sites to contractors in Moffindor village in Fakunya and Lower Banta Chiefdoms on Friday, January 31.
These projects, funded by the World Bank, are set to significantly enhance access to essential services for local communities, addressing longstanding needs in the area.
Environmental Officer of Moyamba District Council, Mr. Kemokai emphasised the importance of this milestone, stating, “This marks a pivotal moment for the Council and the district at large.” He assured that environmental sustainability will be a priority throughout the execution of the projects, ensuring that future generations inherit a healthy ecosystem alongside improved infrastructure.
Chairman of Moyamba District Council, Mr. Joseph B. Mbogba, expressed gratitude to President Julius Maada Bio for his instrumental role in securing the World Bank funding. “As the SLPP, this is our way of showing appreciation for the trust the people placed in us by voting for development-oriented governance,” he remarked. The completed facilities are expected to serve as modern structures, bringing immense benefits to the communities.
Youth leaders from both communities expressed optimism about the projects. Idrissa Moseray, the Falaba Youth Leader, described the initiative as a “beacon of hope,” stating that it signifies that their voices have been heard and that their futures are being invested in. The Moffindor Youth Leader echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the critical role of education in breaking the cycle of poverty.
Janet Sellu, the Falaba Women’s Leader, noted that the health center will ensure women and children receive the care they deserve. Similarly, the Moffindor Women’s Leader expressed confidence that the new school will enhance educational opportunities for children, leading to improved livelihoods.
The Chief Administrator of Moyamba District Council highlighted the project’s potential impact on community-led initiatives. He mentioned that the developments are aligned with their strategic plan for local empowerment. The Procurement Officer reassured that the process has been transparent and inclusive, ensuring community involvement at every stage.
Mr. Abdul Joe Kamanda, representing Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), promised diligent oversight, stating, “We will monitor the progress closely to ensure transparency and accountability in these development initiatives.”
Town Chief, Michael Moseray of Falaba affirmed the community’s commitment to supporting the project’s successful implementation. The Town Chief of Moffindor village echoed this, emphasizing the collective responsibility of community leaders in fostering the prosperity of their constituencies.
Israel Jacob Mboma, the Gender Officer of Moyamba District Council, stressed the importance of gender considerations in the project’s implementation, aiming to create inclusive spaces that empower both men and women.
The Moyamba District Council and local communities eagerly anticipate the construction of these facilities, which are expected to enhance health and education while promoting socio-economic development in the communities.
