Through the initiative, Amazon India will provide digital marketing support and training to women entrepreneurs in Gonda as well as help to create dynamic advertising strategies, the Press Trust of India reported. The e-commerce business will also help Gonda’s women entrepreneurs to list their products online and will focus on regional speciality items.

“With Amazon’s support, these SHGs [self help groups] will now have the opportunity to sell their products online,” said Uttar Pradesh’s chief minister Yogi Adityanath, India Retailing reported. “While our products have always been of high quality, we have now addressed packaging challenges, and with organisations like Amazon onboard, marketing hurdles are also being overcome.”

The move aligns with Amazon India’s aim to get more Indian small businesses online to help them to reach wider customer demographics both in India and abroad. The MoU announcement was made during a celebration of World Wetlands Day held at Gonda’s Parvati Arga Bird Sanctuary and attended by local dignitaries including Yogi Adityanath and the Uttar Pradesh state minister for environment Kirti Vardhan Singh among others.
