- Kajol once rejected a film after hearing Aamir Khan’s name, decision proved right, movie was a disaster, the film was…, lead actress was…
Kajol and Aamir Khan did work together but she was not ready to work again.
Kajol and Aamir Khan are most iconic actors that the industry will ever see. They are unique in their own right. They work in their own ways to mold into their characters. Aamir Khan had been given the moniker,’Mr Perfectionist’ owing to his diligence, dedications towards one character and the project he has been working on. While many actors feel honored to have the opportunity to work along side him, there was one time when Kajol refused to work with him the moment she came to know that he will be part of the project, according to varied reports. In retrospect, it probably was fated for her to escape this “disastrous” film.
However, they two actors have worked together before and after Kajol’s refusal. The movie in question is Aamir Khan’s ‘Mela’ released in 2000.
Why Kajol Refused to Work With Aamir Khan?
Kajol and Aamir Khan were first seen together in 1997 in ‘Ishq’ but not opposite to each other. Kajol was paired with Ajay Devgn and Aamir Khan along with Juhi Chawla in the rom-com.
In an old interview ‘Mela’ director revealed that why Kajol had refused to work with ‘Dangal’ actor then. “All my friends had worked with her, but I worked with Lolo (Karisma Kapoor). Kajol was supposed to be in Mela, but there was some discomfort from her side. She was not sure about Aamir at that point, though later on they did Fanaa. She’s a one-take actor, and he takes (many) takes. So, she had those reservations, that her spontaneity… But she was very gracious, she came to my house and explained it to me. Kajol was not known to do these things,” he said.
When this film was released in theatres on 17 January 2000, the audience did not accept it. The songs of the film were popular, but the film flopped badly at the box office. Kajol’s decision of not working in this film proved right for her career.
Talking about Kajol and Aamir Khan’s films, after the film Ishq, they worked in the film ‘Fanaa’ in the year 2006, in which the actress played the role of a blind woman. Made in a budget of 30 crores, this film collected 105.48 crores at the box office at that time. 16 years after this film, their pair appeared in the film ‘Salaam Venky’, in which Aamir did a cameo.
