Milind Soman + Madhu Sapre + Python
A now 59-year-old man who runs 100 km. Supermodel Madhu Sapre. And an innocent python. In 1995, a print ad of Tuffs Shoes featuring former Miss India Madhu Sapre and supermodel Milind Soman caused quite a stir. In the photo, both of them are wrapped around each other, wearing only Tuffs Shoes and a python. Cases were filed against those who created the ad and the publishers of the two magazines that had printed it. A case was also filed by an animal rights group against the ad agency Ambience Advertising, under the Wildlife Protection Act, for using a python illegally and cruelty towards animals. The case continued for 14 years.

Bipasha Basu + Dino Morea + Silky Underwear
Before venturing into Bollywood, Bipasha Basu and Dino Morea were famous models. One ad campaign in the late 90s which they did together caused an uproar: Cadila, a Swiss-based innerwear company’s underwear ad. Dino pulling Bipasha’s underwear with his teeth is what some felt took the ad too far. Politicians and cabinet ministers from the Maharashtra government protested against it, along with a few women’s organisations, because of which the hoarding had to be taken down.

Virat Kohli + Genelia D’Souza + Cockpit
Virat Kohli and Genelia D’Souza were part of a Fastrack ad in 2011, with Kohli playing a pilot and D’Souza an air hostess. In the ad, she entices the pilot, and both of them end up getting cosy in the cockpit (pun not intended). However, objections were raised against it as certain authorities thought it promoted endangering passengers’ lives.
The Forgotten Condom Ad
Model and actress Deepti Bhatnagar became Miss India in 1990 when she was 18 years old. During the early stages of her career, she had done a condom advertisement which was later pulled down due to its explicit content.
Food + Drinks + Clothes + Adult Content
Several food and drink commercials in the past have been called out for their raunchy advertising. In 2009, it was Padma Laxmi’s Hardee burger ad, the Sana Khan Amul Macho ad in which she fantasizes while washing underwear, and Pooja Bedi’s condom ad with Marc Robinson from 1991.
