AMESBURY, Mass. – Freshman Mikhail Yegorov of the Boston University men’s ice hockey team was named Hockey East Rookie of the Week, the league announced on Monday.

Yegorov was outstanding for the Terriers in two wins this past week, posting a .947 save percentage across three games against top-10 teams. He began the week by making a career-high 43 saves on 44 shots in a 4-1 win over No. 1 Boston College in the Beanpot final, earning the Eberly Award in the process. He then stopped all 30 shots he faced, including 16 in the third period, to record his first NCAA shutout in a 3-0 win over No. 7 Providence on Saturday. Yegorov also recorded his first point with an assist on the Terriers’ second goal in Saturday’s win. Only one other player in the country made more saves this week than Yegorov, and nobody made more stops against top-10 teams than Yegorov.

A native of St. Petersburg, Russia, Yegorov has been sensational since joining the Terriers in late January. He owns a .944 save percentage and a 1.67 goals-against average through seven starts. Since he made his first start on Jan. 25, only five goaltenders who have played in five or more games have a better GAA than Yegorov, and only two such netminders have a higher save percentage than Yegorov.
