Marathi Language Development Minister Uday Samant expressed pride over the first-ever Marathi Literary Yatra Conference aboard the Pune-Delhi train. The conference, which will span 30 hours during the journey, was announced by Samant at a press meet on Wednesday at Pune Railway Station.
The Mahadji Shinde Express, carrying literature enthusiasts to the 98th All India Marathi Literary Conference, scheduled in Delhi from February 21 to 23, was flagged off by Minister Uday Samant at Pune Railway Station.
Speaking at the event, he expressed his happiness at being honored as the reception chairman of this literary journey.
Minister Samant further announced that, on the occasion of Marathi Language Pride Day on February 27, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi has decided to establish a Marathi Study Center in the name of renowned poet Kusumagraj.
He emphasized that this is a significant achievement for the Marathi language and its speakers, fulfilling a long-standing demand. Additionally, an M.A. program in Marathi will commence at JNU from February 27.
Pustak Dindi held
Ahead of the train’s departure, a “Pustak Dindi” (book procession) was organized, and the event began with a tribute to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj by worshipping his portrait on the occasion of Shiv Jayanti.
This special train carries 1,200 senior litterateurs, with Minister Samant himself traveling to engage with them. A Marathi Literary Yatra Conference has been organized onboard, making the journey a unique literary experience. The train is scheduled to arrive in Delhi on the night of February 20.
The event was graced by the presence of Dr PD Patil, Chancellor of Dr DY Patil University, Marathi Literary Yatra Conference President Sharad Tandale, Executive President Vaibhav Wagh, Working President Dr. Sharad Gore, Sahitya Akademi Award-winning author Sangita Barve, and other dignitaries.
