Malayalam’s first paranormal film takes you to an unholy land with Kishore, Shruthy Menon and Merin Philip

Kishore-starrer Vadakkan, which is claimed to be Malayalam’s first paranormal film, has garnered praise at several international film festivals. As the supernatural thriller gears up for its theatrical release in on March 7, 2025, the makers have unveiled the trailer which transports viewers to an unholy island.

The trailer follows Kishore and certain other people as they make their way to a remote location in Kerala. We are told about an untouched and undisturbed entity on the unholy land that is unleashed. 

Shruthy Menon and Merin Philip are also seen in this scary land along with Kishore as the demonic entity makes its presence felt. “The thing with the demonic energy is that it will hit you when you are at your weakest,” a voiceover says. 

Kishore, who plays a paranormal investigator, seems to be looking for an answer or solution even as people are desperately searching for ways to escape and seek help. 

We also see glimpses of folklore figures of northern Kerala as the trailer rushes to a pulsating finish and winds up with the Kettingo song which was released recently.  

With its chilling visuals and ominous background score, the Vadakkan trailer builds anticipation for a gripping supernatural thriller. Fans of horror films would definitely want to check out Vadakkan, when it releases in theatres in Kerala on March 7, 2025. 

Vadakkan’s stellar crew

Kishore, along with Shruthy Menon and Merin Philip, plays the lead role in the film, directed by A Sajeed. Vadakkan is penned by noted writer Unni R, who is best known for Mammootty-starrer Munnariyippu, Dulquer Salmaan’s Charlie and the acclaimed Ozhivudivasathe Kali. Academy Award-winning Resul Pookutty is also on board for sound design, while Keiko Nakahara is the director of photography. The makers had recently released the Kettingo song. The music is by Bijibal, with B K Hari Narayanan penning the lyrics and Bhadra Rajin providing the vocals.
