Judson’s Live Celebrates One Year of Redefining Central Florida’s Music Scene
Judson’s Live at Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, an intimate live music venue in downtown Orlando, recently celebrated its first anniversary. Since opening its doors, Judson’s Live has hosted 375 performances and welcomed more than 41,000 guests – becoming a premier destination for local, regional and national artists.
In its inaugural year, the music room featured more than 34 musical genres, including jazz, blues, country, hip-hop, gospel, Broadway, Latin and big band. Judson’s Live offers unique experiences that feature comfort, closeness and quality cuisine. With table-style seating for up to 140 guests, the venue provides an up-close-and-personal connection with performers.
“Our goal was to create an intimate performance space that connects and inspires our community– Judson’s Live embodies that vision and our commitment to Arts For Every Life®,” said Kathy Ramsberger, president and CEO of Dr. Phillips Center. “As we celebrate key milestones, we’re excited for the future and the next phase of the development of our 9-acre campus, which will deepen our cultural impact here in Central Florida.”
Inspired by iconic listening rooms worldwide, this bold cabaret concept was brought to life through the generosity of Joyce and Judson Green. It was their passion for the performing arts that led way in naming the venue and further enhancing Dr. Phillips Center’s reputation among musicians and music audiences alike.
“It was our pleasure to support and see this project come to life,” said Joyce Green. “It holds a special place in my heart and reflects the love Judson and I shared for music and placemaking in our community. Now, a year later, seeing so many others embrace and enjoy the space is incredibly fulfilling.”
Open six nights a week, Judson’s Live has showcased 187 performances by local artists and 188 performances by national and international artists, including 17 Nashville Nights shows that brought the spirit of Music City to Orlando.
“Judson’s Live has become my favorite place to play,” said Tal Cohen, Grammy Award Winning Pianist. “The vibe is unmatched there and I really feel like I can create with no boundaries. It is really a special place that I hope to keep playing in for years to come.”
As the first performance space at the arts center to offer food and beverage service akin to a restaurant or lounge, the venue elevated the guest experience with its culinary offerings, including 18 brunch performances, nine wine tastings with Master Sommelier George Miliotes and seasonally curated menus.
Building on 10 years of impact, Dr. Phillips Center continues to look toward a dynamic future with the next phase of development plans, which includes an expansion of Judson’s Live, a new listening garden and additional venues.
Judson’s Live is supported by Joyce T. Green & Family, Chuck & Margery Pabst Steinmetz, Frances & Peter Weldon, Cynthia & David Der Hagopian, Hattie Wolfe & Ed Sabori, Dr. Marc & Nancy Sharfman and other generous donors.
