217 Applications Received by Pune Chief Minister’s Secretariat Office Regarding Increased Property Tax

Pune, 6th April 2023: Most of the complaints against the increased property tax levied by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on citizens of the villages included in the municipal corporation have been filed in the Chief Minister’s secretariat room established in the Collector’s office. As there has been no redressal at the local level, these citizens have appealed to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for relief regarding their property and tax.

According to an order given by Chief Minister Shinde, the Chief Secretary of the state instructed the establishment of ward offices of the Chief Minister’s Secretariat Cell in the Collector’s Office at every district level to promptly solve the pending issues of the citizens.

In compliance with this, a Chief Minister’s Secretariat room has been set up in the B-Building on the second floor of the Collector’s Office, in the Entertainment Tax Branch. Applications and representations addressed to the Chief Minister are accepted in this room. Applications or representations requiring action at the ward level are forwarded to the concerned ward authorities. So far, 217 applications have been received by this cell.

Meanwhile, in 2017, villages including Uruli Devachi and Fursungi were included in the Municipal Corporation, followed by 23 other villages including Wagholi. However, in the absence of any facilities, there is opposition from these included villages to the municipal property tax.

The citizens of these villages face the problem of increased taxes levied at a higher rate than that of Gram Panchayats, without receiving adequate facilities. Out of the new 11 villages included in Pune, it has been decided to exclude Uruli Devachi and Fursungi from the municipal corporation and make them independent municipalities.

The Chief Minister’s Secretariat office in Pune has received 217 applications related to increased property tax in included villages. As the citizens of these villages applied for this single question, only four applications were registered, and 400 citizens’ names, village names, and mobile numbers were recorded.

A resident of Pisoli said that in 2021, the administrative staff visited the village, and citizens raised objections to the proposed property tax increase. “If PMC is going to levy ten-twelve times the property tax after merging villages with PMC, then we do not want this. Also, the administration is threatening to confiscate the property and impose compound interest if the increased property tax is not paid in the last month. Therefore, complaints have been made to the Chief Minister’s Secretariat,” he added.
