Imagine being able to travel from one city to another within half an hour, even faster than a commercial aircraft. Well, this sci-fi dream is set to become a reality soon as India is building the world’s longest hyperloop tube which will be able to travel 300 kilometers in just 30 minutes. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who visited the Hyperloop testing facility at IIT Madras on Saturday, said that the Hyperloop tube, being developed with the help of the premier institute, will soon be the world’s longest tube, measuring 410 meters in length.

Hyperloop to be developed at ICF Chennai
Talking to reporters, Vaishnaw said the entire testing system for Hyperloop transportation has been developed using indigenous technologies, and he congratulated all the young innovators for this achievement. The Minister expressed confidence that India will soon be ready for Hyperloop transportation, as the Hyperloop transportation technology, which is currently under development, has yielded good results in the tests conducted so far.
The Railway Ministry has been provided financial funding and technical assistance to the Hyperloop project, and now, all the electronics technology for this Hyperloop project will be developed at ICF Chennai, he revealed, adding that highly skilled experts at the ICF factory have successfully developed large electronics systems for Vande Bharat high-speed trains, and the electronics technology for this Hyperloop project will also be developed at the same facility.
The Minister congratulated the team of young innovators team at IIT Chennai and the Avishkar organization for this successful testing, ANI reported.
Earlier, Vaishnaw had shared a video of India’s first Hyperloop track, announcing that the 410-km long track was ready for a test run. “Bharat’s first Hyperloop test track (410 meters) completed,” he wrote on X while sharing a video of the Hyperloop test track.

What is a Hyperloop train?
A Hyperloop train is high-speed transportation system for both passengers and freight. A hyperloop train runs on a pod with the help of magnetic technology, where an elevated transparent tube is laid, inside which the bogey can run at high speed. The frictionless motion of the tube enables it to reach speeds of up to 1200 km per hour, though the maximum speed of the Indian Railways’ Hyperloop system will be 600 km/hr.
According to reports, Hyperloop train trials are expected to be begin soon as all the required components are in place.
World’s longest Hyperloop track
Currently, Europe boasts the world’s longest Hyperloop test track, which is being prepped for a test run in the coming future. Experts believe that a total of 10,000 km long network of Hyperloop will have been developed around Europe by 2050.
The first Hyperloop system, Virgin Hyperloop, was tested in Las Vegas, United States in November 2020 on a 500-meter Hyperloop track, and registered a top-speed of 161 kmph.
