3rd Annual Kenworthy Silent Film Festival Starts Thursday – Pullman Radio
The Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in Moscow is celebrating the early history of film at the 3rd annual Silent Film Festival, featuring a special slate of programs that highlight the history of movies in Idaho.
This year’s festival kicks off with a welcome panel discussion at 7:00 pm on September 25 featuring Nez Perce cultural historian Nakia Williamson-Cloud, film editor Tom Frank, and archivists from Boise State University.
This discussion will provide context for KPAC’s first major film restoration project, “Told in the Hills” (1919), a Western romance featuring over 100 Nez Perce actors and collaborators. Using 25 minutes of surviving footage, 200 archival set photos, and the original script, KPAC has recreated the full cinematic experience. Diné composer Connor Chee will premiere a new live score during screenings at 7:00 pm on Friday and Saturday, September 26-27.
To close the festival, the Kenworthy has commissioned three composers to produce new scores for a selection of shorts directed by Nell Shipman, the famed filmmaker who ran her own independent studio in Priest Lake, Idaho. The shorts will play at 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm on September 28.
