3rd Edition of Meghalaya Pineapple Fest to be held in Delhi from August 1–3

Shillong, July 30: The third edition of the Meghalaya Pineapple Festival is set to take centre stage at Dilli Haat, INA, New Delhi, from August 1 to 3, promising a vibrant showcase of the state’s tropical produce, cultural heritage and grassroots musical talent.

Organised by the Government of Meghalaya, the festival celebrates the state’s flagship fruit the pineapple alongside its indigenous crafts, unique flavours, and folk-infused music curated under the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme (CM-MGMP). A special performance will also be held at India Gate, presenting Delhiites with an immersive experience of Meghalaya’s rich musical and cultural landscape.

At the heart of the festival is the naturally organic Kew variety of pineapple, grown by over 30,000 farmers in Ri-Bhoi and the Garo Hills. These farmers, supported by self-help groups (SHGs), ensure high-quality and traceable produce.

The success of Meghalaya’s pineapple sector is underpinned by strategic partnerships with leading distributors such as the Lulu Group and Mother India. Over 757 metric tonnes of processed pineapple have already been exported to the European Union for use in the baby food industry. During her recent visit to Meghalaya, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman flagged off a premium consignment of pineapples to Dubai, now available at Lulu Hypermarkets.

This growth is supported by a comprehensive agri-ecosystem comprising 500+ farmer collectives, interest-free loans, cold storage facilities, mobile packhouses, and farm-to-airport logistics. The state’s flagship initiative FOCUS has further bolstered market access by providing trial marketing grants and strengthening farm-to-market linkages.

The festival’s earlier editions in 2023 and 2024 drew national and international attention, forging trade partnerships and promoting India’s agri-diversity. It was notably praised by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a celebration of India’s “diverse agricultural heritage” that “empowers our farmers.”

The 2025 edition of the Meghalaya Pineapple Fest aims to further elevate the state’s agri-exports, cultural diplomacy and grassroots entrepreneurship on the national stage.
