5 Best Upcoming Hulu Original Movies
Hulu was kinda late to the “originals” game, but it’s doing just fine at the moment. Though the company was founded in 2007, it would take until 2019 for it to release its first original film. Previously, the Disney-owned streaming giants had only focused on making TV shows and signing license deals. Its first feature film was Little Monsters, a zombie comedy starring Lupita Nyong’o. After the movie’s success, Hulu continued to invest heavily in its originals, giving subscribers one of the largest libraries available.
Today, viewers can enjoy hits like Boss Level and Palm Springs on the platform. 2024 also saw the release of several great films, including Hold Your Breath and Mr. Crocket. And there’s plenty of more awesomeness on the way in 2025 and beyond. So far, six Hulu original movies are confirmed to be in development, covering all the major genres. Here is what to watch out for.

‘Summer of 69’
Unconfirmed Summer 2025 Release Date
NBC
Actress Jillian Bell (best known for Kinda Pregnant and Brittany Runs a Marathon) will make her feature directorial debut with Summer of 69, a high school comedy starring Saturday Night Live‘s Chloe Fineman. What’s the plot about? As graduation nears, a socially awkward high school senior fears she will never get to date her longtime crush. She thus hires a stripper to help her.
Chasing Young Love
It’s always nice to get a teen film that offers a lesson in confidence since this is an issue many youngsters struggle with. If handled right, the movie will be timeless. Summer of 69 will be the eighth film that the production company, American High, has made for Hulu. The company acquired an abandoned high school in Syracuse, NY, hence filming location is rarely an issue.
Speaking to Deadline, Bell stated,
“It’s always been my dream to direct and I am thrilled to be telling a story about female friendship with a cast of the most talented and funny humans.”
The Emmy-nominated writer has done outstanding work in everything she has been in, so her directorial debut can be expected to be excellent. We can’t wait for Summer of 69.

Untitled ‘Predator’ Movie
Unconfirmed 2025 Release Date
20th Century Studios/Hulu
20th Century Studio boss Steve Asbell recently revealed to The Hollywood Reporter that two new Predator movies will be released in 2025, one for theaters, and another for Hulu. Details about the plots are still unknown, but given the recent success of the franchise, fans have every reason to be excited. Both films were directed by Dan Trachtenberg.
Double the Attacks
The move is hardly surprising, considering Prey, the franchise’s most recent installment, was released on Hulu and topped the charts. According to The Wrap, the film became the most-watched Hulu original upon premiering. Understandably, 20th Century Studios execs feel that a return to cinemas would be a great idea. At the same time, catering to the streaming gang is still wise. Hopefully, the double-bet works.

‘Eenie Meanie’
Unconfirmed 2025 Release Date
Paramount Pictures
Made in the image and likeness of Baby Driver, Eenie Meanie follows a retired teenage getaway driver who is pulled back into her old job for the typical one-last-job. Her former employer offers her a chance to save her ex-boyfriend, so she can’t resist. Will things happen according to plan? The film stars Samara Weaving, known for her breakout role in the horror comedy Ready or Not, Scream VI, and the Hulu series Nine Perfect Strangers.
Rev Up the Engines
Hollywood has been running low on great car-related movies, so Eenie Meanie is a welcome addition. The film is also in safe hands as it is directed by Shawn Simmons, whose previous hit, the Prime Video series, Wayne, has a 100% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Samara Weaving, on the other hand, has collected numerous trophies throughout her career, including a Screen Actors Guild Award. There’s thus every reason to be optimistic.
3
‘Swiped’
Unconfirmed Release Date
Sony Pictures Releasing
Swiped is a biographical film about the woman who enabled so many people to find love and quench their bubbling lust. Whitney Wolfe Herd, the founder of Bumble and co-founder of Tinder, finally gets her story on the screen. Lily James (Cinderella and The Iron Claw) will star as the billionaire, with Rachel Lee Goldenberg (Unpregnant) directing.
The Business of Love
The biopic has great potential because it could be both a story about love and business. Whitney Wolfe Herd became the world’s youngest female billionaire when she took Bumble public. At the age of 31, she was also the youngest woman to have taken any company public in America. There’s also a shortage of inspirational movies about entrepreneurs so Swiped will help fill the void.

‘Control Freak’
Unconfirmed 2025 Release Date
Disney
Control Freak is about a motivational speaker who starts getting an endless itch in her head. As time passes, she discovers she has been infected by a parasitic demon. Kelly Marie Tran (Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi, and Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker) will star as the central character, assisted by Miles Robbins (Blockers, and Halloween) as her husband.
Fighting for Sanity
The Shal Ngo project is made in the mold of cult films like Slither and Stuff where the main characters go bonkers after their minds get infected. Though Ngo isn’t a big-time director, he worked on Season 2 of Hulu’s Bite Size Halloween, hence he knows his way around the horror genre. For lead actress, Kelly Tran, life is set to get even better. She will star in Season 3 of Sweet Tooth, so keep checking out for her.
Unconfirmed Release Date
20th Century Fox
Hulu is rebooting The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, the celebrated comic book franchise created by author Alan Moore and artist Kevin O’Neill. Director Justin Haythe (Revolutionary Road and Red Sparrow), will pen the script, with Don Murphy, who produced the original adaptation in 2003, back as a producer.
The concept could be thought of as an Avengers type of team-up of Victorian-era literary heroes. Allan Quatermain, Mina Murray, Captain Nemo, Dr. Jekyll, and the Invisible Man battle Professor Moriarty, Fu Manchu, and aliens from H. G. Wells’ War of the Worlds.
Hopefully, the Set Was Less Hostile This Time Around
The 2003 movie heavily deviated from the source material and was noted for its troubled production, with Sean Connery reportedly engaging in fisticuffs with director Stephen Norrington. The legendary actor retired from acting shortly after. Still, the film made $179 million globally, hence it makes financial sense to revisit this particular fictional world. Previously, 20th Century Studios had attempted several reboots, including a female-centric movie, but nothing ever materialized. Now things are much more serious, per Deadline.
