50 Years Later, Steven Spielberg Films Something New for Iconic Movie That Influenced Tarantino and Scorsese
Fans are celebrating 50 years of Jaws this month, as the beloved film will officially turn 50 on June 20. That same day, NBC will celebrate the occasion with a three-hour airing of Jaws, complete with an all-new special introduction filmed by director Steven Spielberg.
The special screening will air on Friday, June 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. It serves as a part of a “watch-at-home plan” for the 50th anniversary, which will begin with Jaws first hitting Peacock for streaming on June 15. It will remain on Peacock until July 14, and it will be joined by all three of its sequels. Spielberg’s special introduction will also be featured for the Peacock streaming version of Jaws.

Quentin Tarantino was hardly the only person to see the film’s potential.
Jenny Storms, the Chief Marketing Officer for NBCUniversal Television & Streaming, said in a statement, “Universal is home to the biggest movies in the world and it doesn’t get any bigger than Jaws. We want to celebrate 50 years of this enduring film that has captured the public imagination for generations by bringing it to audiences at home in all the ways they love to watch.”
Jaws Is One of Movie History’s Most Influential Titles
Jaws has now been one of the most influential movies in history for five decades, playing a big part in inspiring some of cinema’s most revered filmmakers. Quentin Tarantino is one who has gone on record as declaring Jaws the “greatest movie ever made,” an opinion he is certainly not alone with. Martin Scorsese is another director who said that the bar had been “set at a certain level” with Jaws, changing the way movies are made. The movie’s influence still holds up, as the Duffer Brothers have also cited Jaws as inspiring the hit Netflix show Stranger Things.
Stream Jaws on Peacock starting on June 15, and the film will also be airing on NBC on Friday, June 20, at 8 p.m. ET/PT. Both include the new intro from Spielberg.
