9th National Youth Games: ‎Enabulele hails athletes as team Edo make podium finish

‎The Executive Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele, has commended team Edo for their show of strong character and resilience at the just concluded 9th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta state.

‎The Edo Sports Commission boss gave the commendation during the closing ceremony of the Youth Games in Asaba.

‎Team Edo made it to the podium as the heartbeat state emerged as the third best contingent at the Youth Games which ended on Saturday, September 7, 2025, with 33 gold,18 silver and 28 bronze medals in their bag.

‎Team Edo jump-started with 9 gold in Weightlifting and 6 gold in gymnastics to emerge champions in the two sports and took early lead but Lagos and Delta overtook Edo in the race.

‎Team Lagos eventually emerged champions of the 2025 National Youth Games after topping the medal table with 52 gold, 32 silver, and 26 bronze medals. Host Delta state on the last day of the competition climbed up to the second position with 37 gold, 38 silver, and 39 bronze.

‎Speaking, Hon Enabulele said the young athletes from Edo did not disappoint their state, adding that their performance is a testament to the fact that Edo remains a powerhouse in Nigerian sports.

“Aside finishing third overall best, I am impressed with the performance of our kids. They made us proud. It shows we have a future with them. Congratulations to us all,” he emphasised.

‎The 2025 Youth Games came to the climax with the grand finale of relay events, including 4x100m, 4x400m, and medley relays as the Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko with the host Delta state Governor Sheriff Oborevwori declaring the games closed.
