FC Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has made a transfer request to the club according to SPORT, which cited anonymous sources.

The German is generally pleased with his squad, which is why he didn’t expect any ingoing or outgoing transfers over the course of the season after the summer window closed and when its winter equivalent opened.

Barca reportedly pushed to get Marcus Rashford on loan, but Flick merely gave his thumbs up to the operation.

The Catalans needed to make a sale or send someone out on loan themselves to possibly make the Rashford deal work, after finally returning to the 1:1 rule under Financial Fair Play (FFP) limits.

As we now know, however, nothing came of the Englishman winding up in Montjuic, with Rashford instead joining Aston Villa from Manchester United for the rest of the season.

With Barca currently top of the league on goal difference, through to the Champions League last 16 and tied 4-4 on aggregate Atletico Madrid in the Copa del Rey semi-finals, there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful about the progress that has been made in a debut season for Flick.

That doesn’t mean that he won’t want to strengthen the team going into 2025/2026, and according to SPORT, he has already made a request of the board.

In short, Flick would like to see an ambidextrous full back capable of playing on either flank brought in, at a time when Jules Kounde and Balde are starting practically every game and could sometimes do with a rest.

Granted Flick has Hector Fort that can fill both roles, but the La Masia graduate is still a little wet behind the ears at and needs more experience and training in the elite as does Gerard Martin.

The newspaper says that the club “will do everything possible” to bring in a new signing with the profile, and Barca could be in a better financial situation a few months from now.

Outside of the window, it looks like it will be able to sell striker flop Vitor Roque – currently on loan at Real Betis – to Brazilian giant Palmeiras for a fee exceeding $25 million plus add-ons.
