Asif Ali’s Rekhachithram, also starring Anaswara Rajan, was the first blockbuster hit of Malayalam in 2025, which is no mean feat as they were up against other stellar actors from the industry. Rekhachithram follows cop Vivek as he sets out to find the truth behind the mysterious disappearance of a young girl Rekha from the sets of a 1985 movie, Kathodu Kathoram. Jofin T. Chacko’s movie, with a story by Ramu Sunil, expertly weaves in the investigation happening in the present day and the events that unfolded four decades ago. Since they’re referring to an actual Mammootty-starrer, the makers leaned into the alternative history genre to narrate the story, and successfully pulled it off.

With Rekhachithram, Asif Ali continued his winning streak from 2024 that saw him in stellar movies such as Kishkindha Kaandam and Thalavan. The actor donned the role of the cop, who is hell bent on finding the truth. He shoulders the movie throughout and his controlled performance is worth watching in Rekhachithram

After her moving performance in Mohanlal’s Neru, Anaswara Rajan once again proved that she could easily slip into the character given to her with Rekhachithram. Anaswara Rajan made us root for Rekha with her nuanced performance. 

Apart from the lead cast, Manoj K Jayan and Zarin Shihab have also contributed to the film’s plot. Siddique, Jagadish, Saikumar, Harisree Ashokan and Indrans play other key supporting roles.
