David Corenswet Says DCU Return After Superman Movie Isn’t Guaranteed
Superman will kick off a new franchise in Warner Bros.’ DC Studios, which will include movies and TV shows in DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters. The upcoming franchise has unveiled some of the titles in the first part, but it’s unclear how it will all blend together.
James Gunn, DC Studio’s co-CEO alongside Peter Safran, wrote and directed the upcoming Superman, which will not mark the character’s origin story, but will start the story right in the center of the action. This time, the character is played by David Corenswet, who will make his debut as the titular superhero this summer. In a new interview with Esquire España, Corenswet played coy when asked about Superman’s future.

David Corenswet teased what to expect from his Clark Kent.
Asked about how he imagines Superman in the future, the actor didn’t provide many details about what’s to come in the DCU. “I don’t think it’s up to me to answer that,” he started, as independently translated by CBR.
It’s up to James Gunn, who has a terrific imagination.
Corenswet continued, “It’s up to James Gunn, who has a terrific imagination. I’m just there where they need me to be to say what was written. Although that doesn’t always happen.”
So far, it looks like his words might hint to an uncertainty of his return. Superman is a vital character in DC Comics, and, although there are no official plans for a Superman sequel ahead of the upcoming release, he’s expected to show up in multiple other projects. A good start would be Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Milly Alcock, who will play Superman’s cousin, Kara Zor-El/ Supergirl, is expected to make her debut alongside Corenswet, per The Hollywood Reporter. That would allow Corenswet to reprise his role in the 2026 film.

Other Projects in DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters
James Gunn gave fans a teaser with the animated series Creature Commandos, which premiered in late 2024 on Max. The series received critical acclaim and had a positive reception from the audience as well. However, it’s only with Superman, the first feature film, that fans can get a feel of what’s to come in the future.
Aside from Superman and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the upcoming Chapter One will consist of several other films, including Clayface, the Batman movie The Brave and the Bold, The Authority, and Swamp Thing. As for its TV shows, Peacemaker will return with Season 2, which will be canon to the DCU. Other shows include Lanterns, Paradise Lost, Booster Gold, and Waller. Creature Commandos will also return with Season 2. There are also some mystery projects, all that could provide David Corenswet a way to reprise his role as Superman.
Superman will fly faster than a bullet and hit theaters on July 11.
