Turkmenistan and the World Bank discussed priorities for cooperation in water resources management

Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov held a meeting with World Bank Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani, during which the parties identified key areas of partnership, including water management, energy, transport and connectivity.

According to the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan, special attention was paid to Ashgabat’s official position on resolving water issues in Central Asia, based on compliance with international law, taking into account the interests of all countries in the region and the participation of international organizations, primarily the UN.

The Turkmen side emphasized that the construction of hydraulic structures on transboundary rivers in the region must comply with strict international standards – technological, environmental and technical. During the talks, the parties also discussed prospects for joint work in reducing methane emissions, developing renewable energy sources and strengthening transport infrastructure. These topics were highlighted as priorities for further cooperation between Turkmenistan and the World Bank.

At the end of the meeting, Rashid Meredov and Antonella Bassani confirmed their mutual readiness to deepen cooperation.
