The Northern Virginia Scholastic Hockey League season ended for the Yorktown High School club team with a playoff loss to Independence.
Yorktown (7-4) lost by a 7-1 score, being outshot 42-18.
Yorktown fell behind 3-0 after the first period, trailed 5-0 at halftime, then scored its lone goal late in the match after trailing 7-0.
Roger Allenbaugh scored Yorktown’s goal on an assist from Andrew Olsen. The goal was the team-leading 17th of the season for Allenbaugh, who also has nine assists and is Yorktown’s leading scorer.
The assist was Olsen’s fifth.
Other top scorers for Yorktown during the season have been Henry Dwyer, Bennett Hass, Peyton Tien, William O’Sullivan, John Chistolini, James Hardie, Peyton Dunn and Logan McGraw.
Yorktown has one match remaining this season, against its Arlington rival Washington-Liberty Generals in the annual contest dubbed “The Battle of Arlington” on Friday, March 14 at 7:20 p.m. at the MedStar Capitals Ice Plex.
Washington-Liberty won the contest the previous two two years.
Washington-Liberty plays in a different league, so the neighborhood rivals don’t meet until the playoffs for both of those leagues are completed.
