Bryan’s First Saturday Art Fair brings art, music, and community together
BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) -The First Saturday Art Fair at DEGALLERY Square continues to foster a vibrant artistic community in Bryan, providing a space for local artists and visitors to connect.
Dary Dega, owner of DEGALLERY, said the event, which started five years ago, was created to support local artists and complement the Downtown Bryan Farmers’ Market.
“Our idea is that people who come to the farmers market downtown Bryan, after this stop by here and relax, listen music and enjoy,” Dega said. “We provide some activity for kids. We have walk-in classes for kids. We have talented local artists from our city, also from Navasota, from Brenham. We try to invite everyone, inclusive students.”

The art fair welcomes artists of all levels, from beginners to professionals, and features a wide variety of work.
“You can see everything from beginner to professional. Oil acrylic painting. A lot of wood making, jewelry making, shop making, a lot of crafting,” Dega said. “We welcome everyone and we happy if we have more.”
Dega says that the goal of the fair is to build a sense of community, not competition.
“We don’t want some petty drama. We want everyone to display art,” she said. “Every art, jewelry, painting, drawing, wood decoration, craft—you can see it’s all diversity artists.”

The First Saturday Art Fair also hosts live music performances and artist collaborations, creating what Dega described as an “artistic atmosphere.”
“We have a group of artists who start here, collaboration. Just musicals. They meet here every single first Saturday for collaboration and some performance,” Dega said. “We want artists who stop on the 1st Friday stay on the hotel here, don’t leave, and come to our Saturday market.”

Dega credited the City of Bryan for its support of the event through the Art and Culture Grant, which has helped sustain the fair.
“It’s hard to run any art bus here,” Dega said. “And I would like to thank you all artists and all visitors from the city.”
