Toyota India drives towards record 300,000 sales in FY2025
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM), which has been on a roll in the domestic passenger vehicle market since the past two years, is just 19,039 vehicles away from achieving record sales of over 300,000 units in FY2025. This will be the first fiscal where it will hit the 300,000 wholesales milestone.
In the first 11 months of the ongoing fiscal year, TKM has dispatched 280,961 cars, SUVs and MPVs, which constitutes a strong 27% year-on-year increase (April 2023-February 2024: 220,604 units). The Japanese manufacturer has already sold 35,285 units more than the 245,676 units in FY2024, its best-ever fiscal sales yet since the company began manufacturing operations 25 years ago in India in 1999.
The 280,961 units dispatched in the past 11 months constitute strong 27% YoY growth for Toyota Kirloskar Motor.
In CY2024, the company had sold a total of 300,159 vehicles, going past the 300,000 milestone for the first time in a calendar year.
With sustained strong demand for most of its products including the four rebadged models (Glanza, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Rumion and Urban Cruiser Taisor), TKM has averaged monthly sales of 25,541 units in the past 11 months compared to 20,054 units in the year-ago period.
The Innova MPV twins – Crysta and Hycross – continue to be the biggest contributors to TKM sales. In the April 2024-January 2025 period, they accounted for an estimated 88,899 units or 35% of the company’s PV dispatches of 254,547 units in the first 10 months of FY2025. The Innova Hycross, whose hybrid system allows the MPV to operate in electric mode for about 60% of the time, ensuring better fuel efficiency and reduced emissions, is the more popular model accounting for an estimated 55% of the Innova’s wholesales across India, including Tier 2 and Tier 3 markets.
TKM’s second best-selling model is the Urban Cruiser Hyryder (50,788 units) midsize SUV. In third position is the Glanza hatchback (40,742 units). In January 2025, the Glanza drove past the 200,000 sales milestone five-and-a-half years after the premium hatchback was introduced in India in June 2019.
The butch Fortuner SUV with over 26,000 units is ranked fourth, while the Urban Cruiser Taisor compact SUV (25,306 units) ranks fifth on the TKM model ladder-board. The Taisor is yet to complete a year in the market but nevertheless in 10 months it has acquired a 2.23% share of the estimated 11,30,237 compact SUVs sold in India between April 2024 and January 2025. The Rumion MPV (17,986 units) takes sixth position in the TKM portfolio. The company also retails the Hilux pickup, Vellfire luxury MPV and the Camry hybrid sedan.
A quick look at Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s past 10 years’ wholesales data reveals just how rapidly the company has grown, particularly since FY2023 when it clocked sales of 173,245 passenger vehicles (up 40% YoY). It followed this strong show with a similar 41% YoY increase in FY2024 to a best-ever 245,676 units.
With just 19,039 vehicles separating it from the 300,000 milestone and given its current strong sales momentum, Toyota Kirloskar Motor is likely to wrap up FY2025 with record wholesales of around 305,000 to 310,000 units.
