Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir have been blanketed in snow, and its effects are being felt in the plains. Cold weather has made a comeback in Delhi-NCR, with a noticeable change in the temperature across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurgaon, and Faridabad.

Light rain and a drop in temperature are expected to continue, particularly in the mornings and evenings, due to the snowfall in the mountains. As a result, the weather in Delhi-NCR is experiencing a shift, with mild cold and potentially foggy conditions in the morning.

What Will Weather Be Like In Delhi?

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the impact of the snowfall in the mountains is now being observed in the plains, leading to periods of light drizzle and cold winds in Delhi and surrounding areas. The weather will be slightly cooler on March 4, with the minimum temperature expected to fall and the maximum temperature around 27°C. The sun will be out during the day, but the weather will feel overcast.

The IMD has forecast strong winds for the next two days and the possibility of light fog in the mornings.

On March 5, temperatures are expected to range from a minimum of 14°C to a maximum of 29°C. The weather could change further on March 6, with a drop in temperature and stronger winds. The sudden weather changes are due to the proximity of Delhi and NCR to Himachal and Uttarakhand, where the snowfall and rain are directly affecting the region.

Mixed Weather In NCR This Week

Throughout the week, Delhi-NCR will experience mixed weather conditions. Light rain, drizzle, strong winds, and fog are expected, along with slight temperature fluctuations. The IMD has predicted light fog on March 6 and 7. On March 3, Delhi and NCR experienced cloudy skies with light rain, with temperatures ranging between 17°C and 28°C.

Nationwide Weather Update

The IMD has issued an ‘Orange’ alert for Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir due to heavy rain, snowfall, and the risk of thunderstorms. Travelers and locals have been advised to exercise caution.

In addition, rain is expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Bihar on March 4, with fluctuating temperatures in cities like Patna.

Kumar Gaurav, a scientist at the Patna Meteorological Center, mentioned that strong winds will continue in the afternoon, but the weather will remain dry in Bihar for now. However, rain is expected to return in the coming days.

In Rajasthan, temperatures are predicted to rise, signalling the early onset of heat.

March Weather Forecast: Hotter Than Normal

The IMD predicts that March will be hotter than usual across India, with hot winds becoming prevalent, signalling the arrival of summer.

D Shivanand Pai, Senior Meteorologist at IMD, stated that the monthly maximum temperature in most parts of the country will be above normal, except in some far southern regions of peninsular India, where temperatures will remain slightly below normal.

Hottest February Since 1901

This February was the hottest recorded since 1901, with an average temperature of 22.04°C, which is 1.34°C higher than the usual 20.70°C. Pai added that the impact of hot weather on the Rabi crop is not expected to be severe, as about 60% of the wheat grown in India is heat resistant.

In February, India received 10.9 mm of rainfall, marking the 18th lowest since 1901 and the fifth lowest since 2001. South Peninsular India recorded only 1.2 mm of rainfall, the 10th lowest since 1901 and the fourth lowest since 2001.
