PM to bless VETA’s 30th Anniversary

DAR ES SALAAM: THE Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is expected to bless the 30th Anniversary of the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) and the 50th anniversary of the National Governmental Institutional System, both events will take place from March 18th to 21st this year.

The announcement was made today by the Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda, during a press briefing in Dar es Salaam.

He said the celebrations aim to underscore the vital role that vocational education and training play in shaping the nation’s workforce.

Professor Mkenda highlighted that one of the central objectives of these celebrations is to establish a collaborative framework that brings together industrialists, educational institutions, and producers. This partnership will provide students with enhanced opportunities for practical, hands-on learning, aligning the educational experience with the needs of both the industrial sector and the students themselves.

“The framework will empower VETA students to excel in industrial competitions, both locally and internationally,” Professor Mkenda stated, emphasizing the importance of equipping students with the necessary skills to compete in a globalized economy.

Additionally, he said the celebrations will focus on advancing the completion of regional and district colleges. Currently, 64 districts in Tanzania lack access to a training authority, and the government is determined to bridge this gap in vocational education, ensuring that more students can access quality training close to home.

The planned activities for the event include skill competitions, community service projects involving skilled trades, and the presentation of awards to individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the success of VETA.

These events will not only celebrate VETA’s achievements over the past three decades but will also highlight ongoing efforts to expand and improve vocational education throughout the country.

VETA has played a crucial role in Tanzania’s education system, becoming a cornerstone of vocational training.

Over the years, it has helped countless individuals acquire the practical skills essential to the nation’s development. The 50th anniversary of the National Governmental Institutional System also offers a chance to reflect on the country’s progress and look forward to future advancements in both governance and education.
