Programme on women in science
A programme ‘Evolving role of women in science’ will be held at the seminar hall of Priyadarsini Planetarium, Kerala State Science and Technology Museum (KSSTM), PMG, on International Women’s Day on Saturday.
Ashoke Sen, Padma Bhushan awardee and theoretical physicist, will be the distinguished guest at the event, organised by the Gender in Physics Working Group of the Indian Physics Association (IPA) in association with the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) and the Indian Institute of Spae Science and Technology (IIST), both in Thiruvananthapuram; KSSTM; and the Breakthrough Science Society’s Thiruvananthapuram chapter.
Talks will be held on various topics, including ‘Towards achieving gender equity: activities of the gender in physics working groups of IPA’ by Shikha Varma; and ‘Understanding gender: perspectives from contemporary socio-cultural milieu by Ankush Banerjee.
A panel discussion on ‘Challenges and opportunities for women in research and academia today’ will be moderated by Hema Somanathan.
