Leamington Music to explore new worlds with Indian musicians

LEAMINGTON Music is set to explore new worlds with visiting Indian musicians.

The Royal Pump Rooms will play host to a different kind of musical quartet than it is used to on Friday March 14 at 7.30pm when Raga Garage arrives from India to give the next concert of the Leamington Music Winter Season.

Raga Garage perform a blend of Indian Carnatic and European Classical sounds, layered and embellished with folk, pop, and jazz ornamentations, and topped up with exotic and ethnic rhythms.

The quartet is led by violinist Jyotsna Srikanth and also features Robert Atchison on violin, Shadrach Solomon on piano, and Karthik Mani on percussion.

Raga Garage arrive in Leamington earlier in the week to take part in Leamington Music’s Education and Community Programme. They will work with young string players at King Edward VI School in Stratford in the morning on Wednesday March 11 and then head over to Leamington’s SYDNI Centre to give two mini-concerts for adults in the afternoon.

The following day sees them spend the afternoon at the Sikh Community and Cultural Centre in Leamington, giving another mini-concert and a Raag orientation workshop for musicians and vocalists.

On Friday March 14, the group will give a special schools’ performance in the Royal Pump Rooms which will be live-streamed to every school in Warwickshire, Coventry, and Solihull, as part of Leamington Music’s partnership with the Heart of England Music Hub.

Leamington Music’s artistic director Helen Beecroft said:“This is a new and exciting road for Leamington Music to explore. We are so looking forward to meeting audiences in different communities and to be bringing something different to the Royal Pump Rooms. This is the first time we have ventured into live-streaming too, and it’s going to be a such wonderful thing to offer the experience of this incredible music from such brilliant musicians to thousands of children and young people all at once.”
