Science North lead appointed to industry association

Ashley Larose will help guide direction of Association of Science and Technology Centers

Ashley Larose, the CEO of Sudbury’s Science North and Dynamic Earth, has joined the board of directors for the Association of Science and Technology Centers (ASTC).

In a Sept. 19 news release, the ASTC announced Larose had been elected to a three-year term, which starts on Oct. 1.

The ASTC is an international industry association representing roughly 600 science and technology centres and museums located in more than three dozen countries around the globe.

Its board provides direction to the association, whose goal is to increase people’s understanding of and engagement with science and technology.

“ASTC is grateful for the service of these distinguished science centre and museum leaders,” said Christofer Nelson, ASTC’s president and CEO, in the release.

“Our new board member, as with all of those who serve on our board of directors, brings tremendous insight and important perspectives on our field as we work together to increase understanding of an engagement with science and technology among all people.”

Larose, who holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology, became CEO of Science North and Dynamic Earth in 2022.

Over her nearly 20-year career with the organization, which she began as a staff scientist, Larose has held positions in education, customer relations, business development, and operations.

She succeeded Guy Labine after the long-time CEO relocated to the U.S. to take the role of CEO at the Arizona Science Center.

Since coming on board as CEO, Larose has guided a number of high-profile projects, including the Go Deeper project at Dynamic Earth, a $15-million expansion expected to be completed in 2025.
