Road yransport & highways minister Nitin Gadkari projected significant improvements to India’s road infrastructure, surpassing even that of the US, within the next two years. According to ANI, he also expressed confidence in India’s electric vehicle sector outpacing the US within five years, during his address at the Times Drive Auto Summit and Awards 2025 on Tuesday.
He stated that the changes in the coming years will drastically improve India’s highway network. ‘I don’t think there is any problem in the road sector. The changes this year and next year will be so significant that earlier I used to say our highway road network would match that of the US, but now I say that within two years, our highway network will be even better than the US,’ he added.
The minister predicted that India will become a leader in both electric vehicle adoption and manufacturing, surpassing the US within the next five years. He anticipates that the reduced travel times between cities like Delhi, Dehradun, Jaipur, and Bengaluru will be a tangible result of the ministry’s infrastructure projects.

Welcoming the prospect of Tesla entering the Indian market, Gadkari stated, ‘It is an open market; whoever has the power, come and make it and compete in the prices.’
He expressed confidence in Indian car manufacturers’ ability to produce high-quality vehicles at competitive prices. He reiterated his commitment to reducing India’s logistics costs from the current 14-16 per cent to single digits, enhancing India’s global competitiveness.
Gadkari outlined an ambitious target of constructing 60 kilometers of road network daily.
