Lehigh Valley movie theater’s major upgrade has some movie classics looking better than ever | Lehigh Valley Regional News

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – From the heartsick Tin Man to Cowardly Lion to Dorothy, and now a very yellow brick road.

Inside ArtsQuest’s Frank Banko Alehouse Cinema is a state-of-the-art look into an 85-year-old film.

“You haven’t seen the Wizard of Oz like this, the way we are going to show it starting on Oct. 4,” said ArtsQuest Senior Programing Director Ryan Hill.

Big, bold, and clear: current and classic movies are now shown in 4k.

Hill showed off the theater’s two new 4k projectors. It’s a $300,000 update that Hill says restores the Hollywood glamour to old favorites.

“To be able to see classics this way, what does it give you?” I asked him.

“It gives me that experience of feeling like I’m seeing this as it first comes out. You’re not seeing any of the rougher parts of it that remind you that you are watching a movie. You actually get to get immersed in that world because the picture is so clear, the colors so vibrant, you are just right there,” he said.

As Dorothy and crew reach the Emerald City, the new view for you starts Oct. 3, as the New Joker and 80’s classic Purple Rain are the first screenings.

The new-looking trip to the land of Oz starts Oct. 4.
