Another Creature Commandos Actor Will Appear in James Gunn’s Superman Movie

New casting information has just been revealed for James Gunn’s Superman movie. The casting will see one of the voice actors from Creature Commandos, the animated series that’s also part of the DCU, but it’s not yet known if he will be playing the same character.

Per Deadline, Alan Tudyk has been revealed to have a role in Superman, Gunn’s big-budget film coming to theaters in 2025. As of now, Tudyk’s role in the movie has not been revealed. The role will follow Tudyk first voicing Dr. Phosphorus in Creature Commandos, which will start streaming on Max later this year. Tudyk is also known in part for voicing the supervillains Joker and Clayface in the DC series Harley Quinn, which is not connected to the DCU.

One possibility for Tudyk’s role is that he’ll be making an appearance as Dr. Phosphorus in Superman. It’s been confirmed that Frank Grillo will be making a live-action appearance in Superman after the animated version of the same character will first be a part of Creature Commandos. It stands to reason that Tudyk could similarly reprise his role as his Creature Commandos character. However, as Deadline reported that Tudyk’s role is not yet confirmed, it’s possible he will play a different character altogether.

David Harbour Hopes to Get Involved With the Live-Action DCU

For his part, Stranger Things star David Harbour is hoping to play his Creature Commandos role in live-action alongside Grillo and possibly Tudyk. In the animated show, Harbour voices Eric Frankenstein. The actor previously teased how he wouldn’t be bothered by the prosthetics required to play such a character in live-action form, confirming he was up for it if Gunn wanted that to happen.

“I think it’s going to be really fun and really exciting, and it opens up a whole new door to the DC Universe of how these characters will occupy the world. I like the concept of a live action and cartoon back and forth,” he said, per io9. “I’ve worn prosthetics in movies before, I’m definitely down for it. I just love telling great stories that people love. I’m just happy to get back to work.”

“Since taking the reins, our true north has been to bring DC film, TV, animation and gaming into alignment under a single banner and bring a sense of unity and consistency into the DCU as a whole,” James Gunn previously said in a video screened at the Annecy Animation Festival in June. “This frees us to create a range of products that are diverse and compelling, and deliver great stand-alone entertainment experiences on every medium, while also being part of a larger story that we’re telling within our unified DCU.”

He continued, “What this means in practical terms is that our characters can move in and out of animation or jump into a game or onto the big screen, but they will remain consistent throughout: same character, same history, same actor.”

Superman will be released in theaters on July 11, 2025.
