Music festival planned for next week – Times-Standard

The streets of Eureka will be filled with the sound of music when the 32nd annual Redwood Coast Music Festival kicks off Oct. 3.

The festivities begin with the return of Taste of Main Street featuring 14 restaurants located throughout Old Town. Tickets can be purchased at northcoasttickets.com. The “Kick Off Dance” is at the Adorni Center from 6 to 10 p.m. with music by The Navy Band Northwest New Orleans Brass Band, Dave Stuckey & The Hot House Gang and Carl Sunny Leyland & The Boogie Woogie Boys. At the same time, The Red Lion is hosting a free evening of music featuring Nice & Easy, the Freshwater Jazz Band and Redwood Dixie Gators.

On Oct. 4, the festival begins with the free opening ceremonies at the Adorni Center. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. Music starts at 1 p.m. with the Navy Band Northwest. New this year, The Eagle House, Morris Graves, Sequoia Center and Veteran’s Memorial will open at 1 p.m. with music going till 10:30 p.m. The Historic Eureka Theater is hosting two nights of award-winning blues acts. Doors at 3:30 p.m. Music begins at 4 p.m. Check the schedule (rcmfeswt.org) for the complete lineup.

On Oct. 4, the Adorni Center, Eagle House, Morris Graves, Sequoia Center and Veterans Memorial are open from 10 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. with non-stop music. Saturday night Arts Alive! will see the return of festival headliner bands at the Gazebo. Music goes from 5:30 to 9 p.m. featuring Gino and the Lone Gunmen, Two Tone Steiny & The Cadillacs with Danny Sandoval and the Navy Band Northwest New Orleans Brass Band. The Morris Graves Museum of Art is free to the public during Arts Alive! where one can listen to the SoHum Girls and Clint Baker’s Jazz Band.

On Oct. 5, the five main venues open at 10 a.m. and have non-stop music till 2:30 p.m. Then, the Red Lion is hosting a free after party from 4 to 9 p.m. with music by Alice Spencer & friends with Dave Bennett, Cornet Chop Suey and winding down with the Holland & Coots Quintet with Dawn Lambeth. The Eagle House will still be rocking to the tunes of Carl Sunny Leyland & the Boogie Woogie Boys. Wrapping up the four-day festival will be The EarRegulars & Mona’s Redwood Coast Jam Finale led by Jon-Erik Kelloso, Matt Munisteri and Dennis Lichtman.

The four-day festival is a family friendly, multigenerational event. All venues have dance floors, food and beverages for sale. A free shuttle service runs between the venues during festival hours. The last shuttle leaves Sunday from the Eagle House at 9 p.m. Check the festival website, rcmfest.org for the schedule, complete lineup of performing artists, their bios and samples of their music.
